2nd first word- aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!

that's right! david spoke yesterday! (I would like to thank mandy for the input for today's installment of the david chronicles! :> ) anyway, the story goes that it was shift change and there was a new nurse that came in and introduced herself to david. she was talking to him and he mumbled something to her. she said, thank you for introducing yourself and david said "your welcome!!!!" isnt' that great! david has been taken off his medication. no more morphine for david. his pneumonia is resolving. his ct shows no new changes meaning no new swelling or bruising. it can happen, but so far it hasn't for david. he is just taking the time to heal. he has a cast on his broken wrist, stitches in his head, chin and tongue. i guess the nurses were trying to sit him up yesterday. it took all of them to do it and he didn't have much strength to support himself so he just flopped back down to the bed. he is also trying to be a houdini and escape out of his restraints. he undid one of his velcro restraints so they had to use a different kind of restraint and tie him back down. i know that seems awful to some of you to think of david being restrained in bed. it really is for his own safety so that he won't hurt himself. after he is more with it, they will gradually take the restraints off and see how he does. oh, some more exciting news.... david has been opening his eyes for a couple minutes each day. not necessarily at one time, but cummulative time throughout the day. and when he saw dad yesterday, he smiled at him!!! i think that is so great!!! anway, that is all the information that i got from dad. if any of you have spoken with mom or dad and have more information to add, please do so. i know that it is probably hard for mom and dad to remember who they have told and who they haven't and sometimes it is hard to remember all of the information. anyway, we are all interested in david's progress, so please share if you have something else that i haven't written in these updates. anyway, that is all for this morning. maybe i will hear more later. please try to remember shelly and mom in your prayers today as they are traveling to be with david right now. we are hoping that they can catch the last ferry from port angeles at 2:00 this afternoon. if not then they have to wait until 8:00 tomorrow morning to ferry across to see David.

It sure is neat to see him progressing. I sure hope he gets better soon so that he can get back home to Phoenix before his birthday, April 21.

Good job KT! I hope this proves informative for everyone! KT will let you know, but Dad talked to Mom and told her David played "thumb war" with him today (4/6/07). Way to go Dave! (Just goes to show he's a Mackey, if he can't wrestle he'll find another way to beat dad!)
